PILOT BECOMES TEACHER THANKS TO SCHOLARSHIP

Amy Sibert, a nontraditional-aged student and mother of three, drives 180 miles roundtrip to attend classes for her family and consumer science education degree at the College at Oneonta Foundation—one of only two colleges in the state offering the program. Amy's story is indeed inspiring.

What helped Amy achieve her dream was the scholarship she received. "I will never forget standing at the mailbox reading that letter saying I was to receive a scholarship. I was so grateful that there were people who recognized the unique challenges facing nontraditional students."

Years ago she earned an associate degree in aircraft piloting and navigation and got her pilot's license. Then she married and had her first of three children and realized that the combination of extensive travel and raising a young family did not work for her—she recalls telling her mother, "Mom, you were right."

Her experience as a mother and part-time preschool teacher made her passionate about the capabilities of young children, and that's what led her to the College at Oneonta Foundation. Amy's scholarship helped make her dream of becoming a teacher possible.

Amy is a wonderful example of how donors who establish scholarships can help fulfill dreams. You, too, can help, and you can do so without impacting your current finances. Contact us today to learn more.
