RETIRED PROFESSOR LEAVES LEGACY OF ART
On February 19, 2013, Professor Emerita of Art Jean Parish passed away. Jean led a long and fulfilling life as an educator and renowned artist. During her lifetime, Jean gave the College two of her paintings, which are on display at the College at Oneonta Foundation in the library near the reference desk and on the third floor of the Netzer Administration Building.
Art was Jean's life. Her charitable giving goals were two-fold: to assist students studying art at the College at Oneonta Foundation and to increase the public display of art for all to see. Jean worked with the College Advancement staff to include a gift for these purposes through her estate plan. Jean's gift to us through her estate totaled more than $500,000.
In fall 2014, as a result of Jean's planning and generosity, an endowed scholarship in her name began and will generate awards for art students in perpetuity.
In addition, the Jean Parish Fund to Display Excellence in Art and Creativity was used to install a display of art on campus in fall 2015. Also, student art was juried and pieces were selected to receive the Jean Parish Student Art Award and were purchased to be displayed at our College. This highlights their work and allows students to note that their art is included in our collection. These are the first public art display projects funded through Jean's wonderful gift.
We thank Jean for her generosity and foresight as well as other donors like Jean who have already put plans in place to make gifts through their estate plans. Many alumni, faculty, staff, and friends have told us that they have made a gift to the College at Oneonta Foundation in their estate plans. They are all members of our Netzer Planned Giving Society, which honors individuals who have notified us that they included the College at Oneonta Foundation in their estate plans.
