ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, RESEARCH LEAD TO SCHOLARSHIP

Photo of Michaela Martin. "My academic experience here has been one that I will remember the rest of my life."

So says Michaela Martin, a the College at Oneonta Foundation junior from Ballston Spa, New York, who has a 3.72 GPA and is majoring in psychology with a minor in business communications.

Michaela received the Steven Edelstein Scholarship in honor of Dr. Foster Brown, a renowned former member of the psychology faculty, based on her major and her research with a faculty mentor on ADHD in college students. Steve Edelstein '79 established this endowed scholarship to help students who share his interests.

"I was fortunate to have prospered as a direct result of my experiences at Oneonta," Steve says. "It feels great to know I am helping young people who are excited about their fields."

Michaela says she values this scholarship, not only to ease her financial burden but also because it recognizes her achievements.

"I am very humbled," she says.

What would Steve say to other alumni regarding scholarships?

"If Oneonta helped you and you have the means to do it," he says, "I heartily recommend starting one. It will increase your overall happiness a notch or two."
