GENEROUS FACULTY CREATE OPPORTUNITY

Photo of Joliana Hunter-Ellin. As Oneonta senior Joliana Hunter-Ellin began her last semester at SUNY College at Oneonta, her career in video production was within reach. But it wasn't always this way. From the first moment Joliana set foot on the College's campus as a high school senior, she knew it was where she wanted to be. Overwhelmed by the welcoming feeling of the College, Joliana was ecstatic when she was admitted as an incoming freshman.

Unfortunately, just a few months before Joliana was to start at the College at Oneonta Foundation, her father was seriously injured in a car accident. With her dad unable to work and costly medical bills facing her family, Joliana knew her plans of attending Oneonta were fading fast.

Scholarships Help Pave the Way

Joliana's saving grace came in the form of two scholarships, enabling her dream of attending Oneonta to come true. In her own words, Joliana describes the day she received the scholarship letters as "the happiest day of my life."

One of Joliana's scholarships was the result of a bequest made to the College at Oneonta Foundation by Ann Scott and Carolyn Jenkins, two longtime Oneonta residents and former members of the College faculty. Miss Scott headed the geography department at Oneonta for many years, and Miss Jenkins chaired the art department.

Joliana and future recipients of the Scott-Jenkins Scholarship can be forever grateful to these two women for their planning and generosity.
